Big City Plan — Next Steps

The Big City Plan continues to stimulate debate about the future of Birmingham's dynamic city centre. The ideas and debate generated by the Work in Progress Report and its consultation, during 2008-09, will now be developed as the Council moves forward with the vision, objectives and policies for the City Centre.

Since the consultation on the Work in Progress Report the Big City Plan has evolved from being a single planning document to a living and developing entity. It will now cover a range of work which will encourage a continued debate about the future of the City Centre from which ideas, policies, projects and developments will emerge.

The first two key pieces of work to emerge will be the Big City Plan Prospectus and a specific City Centre Chapter in the Council's Core Strategy. These will form the basis for the approach to how the City Centre will transform over the next 15 to 20 years. The Work in Progress Report includes details regarding the Big City Plan Prospectus and the Core Strategy City Centre Chapter.
