Big City Team
A project as complex as the masterplanning the country's second city requires a multitude of different skills, perspectives and experience. Urban Initiatives have put together a team of regeneration professional, local leaders who understand the internal workings of the city, and outside experts who can bring an international dimension to the fields of town planning, urban design, movement, economics, communications, consultation, property, delivery, legal, culture, leisure and sustainability. The members of the consortium are: Urban Initiatives, Urban Delivery, DTZ, Roger Tym & Partners, Trowers & Hamlins, Atelier Ten.
Kelvin Campbell, Managing Director of Urban Initiatives, said:
“A job like this only comes along once in a lifetime. To work on a whole city, particularly one of the scale and quality of Birmingham, is the holy grail of urban design and anyone who sees themselves at the forefront of the ‘making cities’ agenda will want to work on this project.”
Regular consultation will take place with a number of key groups across Birmingham. One of these groups is a newly created City Team made up of young public-spirited citizens who will champion the Big City Plan throughout its life span.
Planning and Regeneration within the city council's Development and Culture directorate are responsible for production and delivery of the Big City Plan, led by Clive Dutton, Director and Philip Singleton, Project Manager.
