Global and Local Themes
The Big Ideas event, held in November 2007, identified a number of Global Themes and Local Ideas on which the Big City Plan should be based.
The event was attended by international regeneration experts, local stakeholders, members of the City Team and council officers. Ideas from the event were developed in the Big City Plan Charter which was launched in February 2008.
The charter is a statement of intent for the city centre, which helps to define strategic objectives for the Big City Plan.
The ten Global Themes within the charter suggest how Birmingham can pursue its ambitions to operate and compete successfully within the global competitive market.
The charter also sets out ten Local Ideas which will appeal to the everyday concerns and the future aspirations of the million-plus people who live, work and use Birmingham's city centre. The ideas cover the broadest cross section of interests and values we share.
